Harbor Breeze Glass Globe

What is a Harbor Breeze Glass Globe?

A glass globe is a glass globe, or cover, that goes over the light in the light kit. Just like a lamp shade, a globe helps to focus the light in a specific manner. A glass globe replacement is often sought after when you’re changing a bulb, and suddenly the globe falls and smashes on the floor. In order to avoid this, it’s usually best to remove the globe and put it down on the table. Don’t leave it on an uneven surface, or try to change the bulb without putting the globe down first.

Once a globe is broken, it’s usually not possible to glue it back together or fix it. You’ll need to replace it. The local Home Depot or Lowe’s should be able to help you find a replacement, or the Home Depot community forums.

Don’t try to glue a broken shade back together

Although it may be hard to find a replacement shade or globe, we don’t recommend trying to piece the globe back together in any way. In doing so, it’s likely that the globe will just fall apart again. Also, small pieces of glass are not safe. If the shade has broken and fallen apart on the floor, make sure you clean it up well using a broom, vacuum, etc. If you have pets or small children, you certainly don’t want them getting the glass in their feet. Very small children could also pick the glass up and put it in their mouth – let’s avoid that!

Obtain help when replacing a Harbor Breeze glass globe

Don’t try to change the shade on your own – seek help. It’s a lot easier to change a bulb, shade or globe when you have someone to help you hold it. Talk to your spouse, roomate, mom, dad, brother or other to help you complete the task. Often times, you just need another set of hands to hold the shade while you unhook it or release it from the holding screws. Usually, the light kit will have a screw that you turn in order to loosen the hold on the globe. In some cases, you may need to use a screwdriver. Usually this is not the case, but if it is, you should certainly seek help. Keep in mind while you’re unscrewing the globe, who’s going to hold it so it does not smash on the floor? You may want to complete the job right now, but wait until you have a hand to help you out.
